Whispers of stony earth

In all geographical areas, God has placed natural resources to support human life provided they are sustainably utilized. So it is with the stony camp grounds of Besania. Start from your strength and explore the diversity beyond what tradition thinks your land is worth. At Camp Besania we could choose to lament the erratic rains, the stony ground, the soil erosion and the poor soils that do not sustain nature-based farming and grazing. But we must choose to think positive; build on what nature has for us and work from our core strengths.

Leaving the stony ground to the perfecting power of ecological processes causes it to grow invaluable biodiversity. The stones and rocks can be used for construction, gardening, landscaping, surfacing, art and design. Other opportunities include camping, rain water harvesting, apiculture, recreation plus growing of shallow rooted and drought resistant crops. Deep rooted plants require wide holes that are backfilled with better moisture-retaining soil. Work plenty of organic manure or partially decomposed compost into the soil, and you are good to go.
