So much effort is put into protecting gazetted forests and wetlands without a care about the extensive nature destruction on private land! The owners freely erase the trees by virtue of the authority they have as title holders. Construction, fuel harvesting, brick burning and the mass-grading approach to land development by estate developers is taking a toll on nature. The need to develop a tree-conscious approach to planning and construction cannot be over emphasized. Every tree is a treasure for beauty, shade, wild habitat, food, medicine, water, soil enrichment, wood, lumber, etcetera. Trees purify our water and the air we breathe; they store carbon, aid rain formation, protect land from erosion and provide habitat for wildlife.
To the extent possible the natural positioning of trees should be the campus that directs the size, location and direction of every human activity on the land – the housing, walkways, recreation, natural bush, gardening, name it. Development and conservation should be planned by individuals, government and nature-literate engineers to coexist in harmony. Private land owners should also be encouraged to invest in conservation parks where birds and small wild animals that are closed in by settlements and farming will gladly find new refuge. #WhispersofNature
